LEARNING ADJUSTMENTS

Inclusive Learning at St Josephine Bakhita

At St Josephine Bakhita, we celebrate diversity and promote inclusive learning. Our goal is to engage every student and help them reach their full potential, regardless of their abilities or background.

Our Approach

  • We provide a personalised curriculum to cater to the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and additional needs.
  • Our staff work closely with families to develop Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) and review progress regularly.
  • We use a Learning Adjustment Framework to make necessary adjustments to the curriculum, ensuring students with disabilities can engage and demonstrate their knowledge.

Supporting Students

  • We identify students requiring additional support through assessments, consultations, and observations.
  • Students requiring support are integrated into regular classrooms, participating fully in school experiences.
  • Strategies such as differentiated curriculum, cooperative group work, and peer tutoring promote inclusivity.

Shared Responsibility

  • Classroom teachers create a safe and challenging environment, promoting a sense of belonging among students.
  • Teachers are supported by the Learning Adjustment Leader, Curriculum Leaders, and other staff to facilitate student participation in meaningful activities.

Annual Data Collection

  • We participate in the National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) to better understand the needs of students with disabilities and provide targeted support.

SUPPORTING PROGRAMS

ENGLISH

Little Learners Love Literacy

Little Learners Love Literacy resources are used to support explicit and systematic teaching of reading and spelling at the whole class and small group level.

TOE BY TOE

TOE by TOE is a highly structured, multi-sensory reading manual to assist students in the Middle and Senior Levels with reading, decoding and their phonemic awareness.  TOE by TOE builds student’s skills in phonemes through specific rules and developing syllabic understanding.  Students then apply this knowledge to decoding multisyllabic words.  Students in the TOE by TOE Program work 1-1 with an Education Support Officer for 10 minutes, 4 – 5 times per week

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Social Groups

Selected students across the school have the opportunity to participate in small group tasks that focus on the Victorian Curriculum Personal and Social Capabilities.

The groups are project based and provide hands on learning opportunities for all students. Students selected to participate in these groups will have different individual focuses identified by their classroom teacher.

Lego Club: Building Social Skills through Play

Lego Club is a fun and interactive program designed to enhance the social skills of children. Through Lego-based activities, children develop essential social competencies, including:

Social Skills Developed

Seasons for Growth

Seasons for Growth is a program for children who have experienced significant change or loss.  It is based on the belief that change, loss and grief are a normal and valuable part of life and explores how we can learn to live with and grow from these experiences.

St Josephine Bakhita Primary School acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the school is situated, and pays respect to Elders, past, present and emerging.
